Eid ul
Adha:
Eid ul
Adha is the "Festival of Sacrife".
Muslims
commemorate the spirit of Prophet Ibrahim* to obey, and sacrifice for Allah, by
celebrating this Eid. (* means
Alaihisalaam or peace be upon him)
Prophet
Ibrahim* was commanded by Allah to sacrifice his son, but, when he was about to
do so, Allah told him that his sacrifice is already accepted...and it was only
a test for both. Shaitan tried to mislead Prophet Ibrahim , but he didnot listen to him.
At the
end of the Hajj, which is also a practice to struggle for Allah's pleasure,
Muslims throughout the world celebrate Eid al-Adha .
Muslims
who perform Hajj at Mecca are required to perform sacrifice of animals (like
goat, sheep, cow, camel etc..) , but if they can't they fast for three days..Other Muslims also try to do the same to
fulfill the sunnat (way) of prophet Ibrahim*.
The other story related to this Eid is the struggle of Prophet Ibrahim's wife Hajira, who was left in the desert of mkka in Arabia by Prophet Ibrahim ,with her baby Prophet Ismail to fulfill Allah's will. She waited and waited for Prophet Ibrahim's return. While she was waiting she used to climb a hill Safa to see if Prophet Ibrahim was coming from that side. Then she used to run and climb the other hill Marva to see if Prophet Ibrahim was coming from that side. Meanwhile his baby was crying and where he was lying helplessly, suddenly a water fountain sprung out. This water is still coming out and is considered holy water called Zam Zam.
